We were founded in 1983 by Dennis Allen, who now serves as the Chairman of the Board. For over 40 years, Dennis has been bringing his passion for energy conservation and sustainability to his work building quality, healthy homes for neighbors in Santa Barbara.

With strong roots in Santa Barbara for three decades, Allen Construction has become the area’s leading provider of responsible and high-quality construction. We also have regional divisions in West Los Angeles, San Luis Obispo, and Ventura, which provide local support to projects in those areas.

As pioneers in the green building movement, our team members are more than craftspeople. They are progressive thinkers who create beautiful, energy-efficient, healthy living spaces. New clients come to us because of our reputation for quality and dependability. Long term clients stay with us because of our expert guidance even after the project’s completion.

As an employee-owned business, the Allen team actively collaborates, celebrates, and reaps the rewards of our hard work together because we share in the company’s ownership. The employee stock option plan (ESOP) also protects the future of our company as it provides a succession plan that doesn’t hinge on a single owner’s participation in the business; something that’s all too frequent in the construction industry. Our staff engages and takes ownership in projects at a level not seen from more traditional corporate builders. Every member of our staff brings unique and valuable expertise to the project, as well as a passion for their craft and a dedication to their clients.

In 2016, we were selected as the Western States ESOP company of the year, an honor we attribute to the culture, centered around our Core Values, and dedication that each of our employees brings to the job on a daily basis. In late-2019, we completed an ESOP transaction with Dennis Allen and his wife Jenny, the company’s founders, that brought employee ownership at Allen up to 51%. This was a huge milestone for the company as becoming a majority employee-owned company has always been our long-term goal.
